Article: "In [R&I], the third character is their relationship."

From Minneapolis Star Tribune:
TV's female crimefighters carry a badge, a gun and a tough-as-nails attitude. But there's one tool they're rarely provided with: gal pals.

Sgt. Lucy Bates, assigned to "Hill Street Blues," drank and played poker exclusively with the boys. For all her Southern charm, Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson of "The Closer" can't seem to attract a single girlfriend. Mary Shannon of "In Plain Sight" acts like it's against the law to be even civil to other women.

Until last year, you had to go back to "Charlie's Angels" and "Cagney & Lacey" for a popular drama in which women had each other's back, both on and off the job.

Then came TNT's "Rizzoli & Isles," a formulaic cable series that mixed witty banter with gruesome crimes, neatly wrapped up by the end of the hour.

It didn't appear to be anything more than a so-so dessert to follow "The Closer."

But something extraordinary happened. "Rizzoli" quietly became cable's most watched drama, a title it may well retain as it returns Monday for its second season.

Article: Angie Harmon talks to the New York Post!

From New York Post
“I planned on cooking dinner every night and living the quiet life when we moved to North Carolina,” says Angie Harmon.

The former star of “Law & Order” had just convinced her husband, ex New York Giants star Jason Sehorn, to ditch Tinseltown and head back East with their three daughters.

But before she’d unpacked the boxes, a FedEx package arrived.

“They drop the script for ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ on my doorstep,” says Harmon.

The story — about a Boston homicide detective, Jane Rizzoli, who is awkwardly teamed up with a medical examiner, Dr. Maura Isles — was already a series of best-selling mystery books.

Tess Gerritsen: "How do you make Angie Harmon not beautiful?"

From Columbus Dispatch:
Q: What do you think of the Rizzoli & Isles TV series?

Tess: I do like it. It's funnier, lighter, and has more of the female-friendship theme than my books. ... In my books, I make a point of describing Jane as utterly ordinary-looking. She's not a beautiful woman, and, maybe because of that, she has a chip on her shoulder. But how do you make Angie Harmon (who plays Jane Rizzoli) not beautiful?

Lee Thompson Young: Angie Harmon is "really very, very skilled"!

From The State:
Detective Barry Frost is a different kind of homicide detective. He’s a wiz with computers, but when he steps into a morgue and sees a cadaver, he gets weak in the knees and has to leave before putting his lunch on the floor.

Like most detectives, though, he’s fiercely protective of his partner.

On the second season of “Rizzoli & Isles,” TNT’s hit police drama which premieres Monday night, we’ll learn more about Frost, who is played by Columbia native Lee Thompson Young.

The new season of Rizzoli & Isles will premiere at 10 p.m. Monday on TNT, Time Warner Cable channel 23.

“It gets into the character’s story, family, what makes him tick,” Young said. “That I’m very excited about.”

Thompson’s character, Frost, is the partner of Jane Rizzoli a smart, street-wise Boston homicide detective played by Angie Harmon, a former “Law & Order” star.

“As an actor watching her work, it’s inspiring because she’s really very, very skilled,” Young said.
