Interview: Angie Harmon talks family, fashion & Red Earth!

Maybe you first saw Angie Harmon on the cover of Seventeen magazine, or as DA Abbie Carmichael on “Law & Order,” or in one of her many films. Today, she also has a legion of fans from her current role as police detective Jane Rizzoli on “Rizzoli & Isles.” Luckily, we were able to snag a few moments with Angie, as she juggles the production schedule of “Rizzoli & Isles” and the launch of her new jewelry line in collaboration with Red Earth, all while raising her three beautiful daughters. Interview: Angie Harmon on Jane Rizzoli's evolution, the R&I finale, & travel snafus!

Since July 12, 2010, Harmon has starred in TNT’s crime drama Rizzoli & Isles, a series based on the novels by retired physician Tess Gerritsen. The premiere was later recognized as the all time most successful cable series launch. Rizzoli & Isles follows the lives of homicide detective Jane Rizzoli (Harmon) and medical examiner Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander), complete opposites, but best friends who solve crimes and bust criminals in Boston, Massachusetts. The fifth season summer finale entitled “Burden of Proof” airs September 2, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. (eastern) on TNT.

Melissa Parker (Smashing Interviews Magazine): Angie, according to your publicist, your day is not going well because of some events that are totally out of your control. Could it be that you have an interesting airport story to tell?

Angie Harmon: There’s nothing interesting about it. I had my three girls crying on the sidewalk, and I was crying, and I get in, and my flight’s been changed. It’s not interesting, just really kind of pitiful.

Video interview: Angie Harmon talks to CBS about her UNICEF trip!

Right before Angie Harmon took off for her first field visit as a new UNICEF ambassador in January her three daughters said, "Please give the children a hug."

During her week in Nicaragua, Harmon witnessed UNICEF's child protection programs, including a peer-to-peer mentorship program where art is used to help protect kids from violence and exploitation.

"It's basically about protecting those kids, trying to keep them off the streets -- trying to educate them on what trafficking is," the 41-year-old actress said during a recent visit to CBS News. "We have so much that we take for granted -- I know I do -- in this country and then when you go and see the poverty in other countries...it just makes you come back and appreciate things so much more."

Actress and UNICEF Ambassador Angie Harmon just returned from a visit to Nicaragua, where she traveled to bring attention to the horrors of child trafficking within the Central American country and across the globe. During her trip Harmon witnessed UNICEF programs to protect children from violence, exploitation and abuse and spoke with adolescent girls and boys about their experiences.

"In Nicaragua I met adolescents who have lived through some of the most horrific circumstances imaginable, including two 11-year-old girls who were sexually exploited," said UNICEF Ambassador Angie Harmon. "But I didn't see victims, I saw survivors. I was awed by their strength and by their desire to help not only themselves, but also their peers."

But Angie Harmon decided to bring a dose of cheeky glamour to the organisation's annual Snowflake Ball.

The 41-year-old daringly flashed some side-boob in a see-through gown at the bash at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

The Rizzoli & Isles star showed off her slender figure in the dress, which featured a white skirt and an elaborate black top.

The top featured ruching at the bust while the see-through netting material offered a glimpse of side-boob.

Tess Gerritsen: Angie Harmon & Sasha Alexander have always been electric together!

[Tess Gerritsen] has been impressed by the TV series [based on her books], which the network renewed for a fifth season after its recent summer run.

“I do watch it a lot. The actors do a really great job. Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander have been electric from the very first time they read together,” she said.

The characters also have become role models for many women.

“The TV show has made two professional women working together and becoming friends an elemental part of the story. I hadn’t realized how revolutionary that was on TV. It’s surprising to think that female friendship among professionals doesn’t get explored more on TV,” Gerritsen said.

Craig Morgan is working on a new movie that was written and is being directed by his good friend Angie Harmon. The two of them worked together when Craig guest starred on her TV show, Rizzoli and Isles, which Craig really enjoyed, so he’s happy to be working with her again.

Craig Morgan is expanding his resume. The singer, who made a guest appearance on the hit TV drama ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ last year, is teaming up with the show’s star, Angie Harmon, to appear in his first feature film. ... At least his occupation in the movie won’t be too much of a stretch for the singer, since he was once a police officer as well. Still, he insists there aren’t many similarities between how law enforcement is portrayed on television, and how it is in real life.

“You watch it and go, ‘Oh really? C’mon, c’mon. Surely nobody will believe that,’” he tells The Boot, citing the CSI series as just one example of a fictionalized cop drama. “That is so far out there, it blows my mind. They do a decent job, but they glamorize it. It’s so glamorous. I never wore a suit like that.”

Harmon wrote the new movie, and is also directing the project. There’s no word yet on a release date.

“Rizzoli & Isles” star Angie Harmon has a great working dynamic with co-star Sasha Alexander, but she was still surprised when fans of the show pushed for their characters to become more than friends.

“It was like, ‘We’re not going to watch your show because you won’t write them making out,’ ” Harmon told More in the magazine’s 15th-anniversary issue.

Nowadays, Harmon and Alexander, 40, wink at their lesbian following. “Whether we’re gay or straight, it doesn’t matter,” Harmon said. “We’re all women. We all have the same wonderful situations happen to us, the same horrific situations. We all get our hearts broken.”
