"Maura's estranged biological mother Hope (Sharon Lawrence) will be back in the finale — this time with her tail in between her legs as she tries to apologize to Maura for dismissing her as her daughter and to ask Maura for a kidney donation for her dying 18-year-old daughter Kayleen. 'It's a great scene because Maura does something un-Maura-like: She just says what she feels to Hope,' [Sasha] Alexander says. 'It's a breakthrough for her because she's just not being polite about it and really showing Hope how she feels, and then allowing her to determine whether she's going to help her or not. It won't be resolved yet. ... It's just interesting to me because I feel like whether you know your mom growing up or not, there does come a point as an adult where you have to discover who your mother is. Is she somebody who could be a friend of yours? Or is this a woman who do I don't relate to at all and I don't have anything in common with? And we're seeing Hope also having to unravel this past. Unlike last season's rift-inducing cliff-hanger, this year's closer will find Jane and Maura coming together after a building collapses with family and colleagues inside. 'I think it's a nice contrast to last year's [finale],' Alexander says. 'They're in this thing together.' Although it's technically just Jane's job to go inside the wreckage, Maura insists on following her. 'She doesn't want her friend to do it alone. There's a wonderful moment at the very, very end where you see these two women who are so different and yet they have this wonderful connection. Sides (drafts of scripts tailored for an actor) indicate that this week's murder involves the wife of a councilman, who is directing a play and rigs a prop gun to shoot ball bearings at one of the actors, killing him. The murder is part of a cover-up involving bad concrete being used in the construction of a building called the Storrow Center.
The center's underground parking garage collapses because of the bad concrete and other shortcuts taken by those overseeing the construction project - including the councilman himself. At least seven people die, and more are injured. Maura assists in treating the victims, and Hope comes to help as well. Frost, Tommy, and Lydia's baby are inside when the building starts to crumble. They are trapped in the wreckage and must be cut out of the collapsed structure before the entire building falls. Colin Egglesfield (Tommy) tweeted this picture.

Camille and her son (Frost's little brother) are visiting Boston from Virginia along with Robin, whom Camille introduces as her "roommate." She tells Angela she is getting remarried soon and is concerned about telling Frost, but doesn't reveal any more details.
Jane, Frost and Frankie challenge Maura, Robin and Camille to a game of softball, and lose miserably. Over drinks at the Robber, Jane notices that Robin and Camille are wearing matching wedding bands. There is a touching moment in which Frost reveals that he knew about the relationship despite Camille's attempts to keep it from him, and gives the couple his blessing. Camille asks him to be best man, and he accepts.

Episode 13: "Virtual Love"

When a microbrewer is murdered, the virtual world and real world meet head-on. Jane and the rest of the team mentor underprivileged teenagers. Angela starts a new romance. (via TV.com)
Sides (drafts of scripts tailored for an actor) indicate that this week's case centers around a virtual reality game named Vikings of the Realm, which gets very real for one user when he ends up dead, stabbed with a spear that has Viking runes carved into it. Jane and Maura talk to a professor from the Nordic Studies department at BCU, who translates the runes as love letters - albeit historically inaccurate ones. The perpetrator turns out to be the dead man's assistant.
During the course of the investigation, a motorcycle gang briefly comes under suspicion in connection with a lawsuit over the copyright infringement of a biker logo. Korsak reveals that he used to ride a motorcycle.
Meanwhile, Rondo gets Jane, Maura, Korsak and Frost involved in mentoring some homeless teenagers from a local group home. Jane's mentee, Dania, attends an autopsy, and impresses Jane and Maura with her knowledge and theories. Later, one of the other mentees apologizes for stealing Angela's purse and setting off a fire alarm as a distraction, but it turns out that Dania is the real culprit - she stole the purse to get gift cards to buy books.
Also, Angela flirts with a hotshot detective from the Auto Theft Task Force to make Lt. Cavanaugh jealous.

The team investigates when a suicide may not be how it appears. Frost decides to review an old murder case. Angela's new romance isn't a secret anymore. (via TV.com)
Sides (drafts of scripts tailored for an actor) indicate that the victim, the author of a bestselling book titled "Suicide Boy," was murdered in his apartment. The motive was to prevent him from exposing the real people behind the murder of a girl at a local prep school - the girl's then-boyfriend, Bradley, and his well-to-do mother. Later, it transpires that Bradley and the author - Ethan - were roommates at a rehab center, and Ethan was writing a tell-all book about the case.
The courtroom testimony of Ann, the dead girl's best friend, helps to convict the wrong man, but Maura picks up on the fact that Ann lied on the stand by watching recorded footage and studying her facial expressions.
Later, Maura and Frost speak with Ann. Ann says the dead girl was like a sister to her, to which Maura responds, "I have a best friend like that."
Additionally, Frost becomes extremely personally invested in the case, while Angela gives Jane and Maura stickers with a sad face and a smiley face, respectively, to reflect their attitudes.

Episode 11: "Class Action Satisfaction"

After a man dies from poisoning, Jane searches for the source. As Korsak gets back with his ex-wife, Tommy and Lydia can't come to terms about the baby. Stanley reveals his true feelings. (via TV.com)
This episode opens with Jane and Maura in their pajamas, caring for the baby who was left on Maura's doorstep at the end of episode 10. (via South Coast Today)
"Who's the father? Frank or Tommy? A paternity test will be done in the midseason premiere, at the hands of Maura, so the question will finally be put to bed. In the interim, Rizzoli & Isles & Co. take in the infant, nicknamed T.J. for Tommy Jr. — and Jane's got babies on the brain. 'There's this moment where Jane is considering taking care of this baby and Maura's the reality check of, 'Really? You really think you can do that?' [Sasha] Alexander tells TVGuide.com. 'She has to knock some sense into her. They both are not in relationships that have offered them the opportunity in their lives yet to turn that corner. Sides (drafts of scripts tailored for an actor) indicate that a man - Phil - collapses in the Division 1 Cafe and is found to have Korsak's contact details in his wallet. The investigation into his death takes Frost and Korsak to an AA meeting at a local church. There, they watch as a man shares how he overcame his struggles with alcohol to become a lawyer operating out of the back of his car.
Korsak runs into his first wife, Dana, at the meeting, and we learn about their history (they were married for a year, but he spent most of that time in Vietnam, where she sent him a letter telling him she wanted to end the marriage). It turns out that Dana was the one who had given Korsak's information to Phil after Phil confessed to her that he had ruined a little boy's life. Thanks to Dana and a helpful barista, Phil is linked to another AA attendee, a woman named Alice.
Later in the episode, it transpires that the lawyer had been using the meetings to drum up business and blackmail his clients. Korsak and Jane discover he had been withholding evidence (a bloody license plate) that implicated Phil in a drunk-driving incident.
Meanwhile, Maura, Jane and a new morgue attendant named Alex are exposed to a biohazardous substance that requires the M.E.'s office to be sealed off and the three of them to undress and shower. In typical Isles fashion, Maura expresses concern about the fate of her designer dress, which she's only worn once, but it ends up being returned to her safely.

They indicate that a mother and son at a children's play area in a park discover that a bronze Venus statue in the middle of a fountain isn't what it seems - specifically, one of its arm stumps is bloody. A student and teacher on a field trip to a museum make a similar discovery - the apparent latest in a string of asphyxiated prostitutes. The fact that a sculpture/statue is involved is a potential link to Dennis Rockmond from episode 3, who returns in this episode, although this is just speculation.
With some help from an acquaintance of Rondo's - a transvestite prostitute named Kitty - a construction worker who likes to choke hookers is implicated. When Frost, Frankie and Jane go to interrogate him, he reacts violently.
During the course of the investigation, the trio - with the help of Jane's new neighbor, Riley - also question a 60-year-old woman with a questionable wig.

They indicate that this week's murder victim is Shane Finnegan, a member of the Channel Street Boys - a band comprised of three brothers that has its roots in South Boston. The Rizzoli family has known the brothers for years, and Shane even wrote a song about Jane called "Pure Boston Beauty." Initially, Shane's history of substance abuse leads to the assumption that he died of a drug overdose. The boys' father is also a suspect. However, once a tox screen comes back that shows Shane didn't have any drugs in his system when he died, the investigation changes course and eventually implicates the other Finnegan brothers.
In lighter news, Jane and Maura go clothes-shopping, then take Lydia (Frank, Sr.'s ex-fiancee, who is pregnant with Tommy's baby) to a lamaze class.

The pair go on a date to the Dirty Robber, and Frankie even wears a suit.

The homicide in this episode takes place at a wedding; specifically, the bride is stabbed and her sister disappears. At first, the sister is a suspect, but then it becomes clear she's been abducted. Next to fall under suspicion is the groom's jilted lover, but the focus soon turns toward an Eastern European human trafficker. Ultimately, the bride's sister is found with Chuck Simms, the leader of a nonprofit who purportedly works to help free Eastern European sex slaves. Simms is in the middle of auctioning her off to the highest bidder.
In lighter news, Frankie takes another step toward his dream of becoming a homicide detective when he goes for an interview with Cavanaugh. Also, we find out Maura can speak fluent Serbian.

Angela, unaware of who Lydia is, becomes fast friends with the girl. Meanwhile, Jane and Maura get the truth out of Tommy about who Lydia is.

They indicate that this week's murder victim is Emma Spencer, a Harvard-educated recent law graduate who worked for the D.A.'s office. She posed as a nanny for Congressional hopeful Tom McGregor, Jr. - whose political campaign Angela Rizzoli actively supports - to obtain evidence in the form of a hair trapped in a suit of armor that will help solve the 10-year-old homicide case of Isabelle Dubois. It eventually transpires that McGregor, who had been sleeping with Isabelle, woke up next to her dead body with little recollection of what happened because his campaign manager had drugged them both and strangled Isabelle.
We meet Maura's birth mother, Hope, in this episode. As Sasha explains, “Maura, Jane, and Angela [Lorraine Bracco] stop in their tracks when they hear this woman speak. It’s like you’re listening to Maura. And Maura physically cannot talk around her. She’s so scared to interact with her because she doesn’t want her to know [she's her daughter], so it’s actually very comedic. There are moments when she’ll do something that somehow moves me, and I just burst into tears. She’s like, ‘Why are you crying?’ And Jane will be like, ‘She gets really emotional when we break a case.’” (via Entertainment Weekly)

Maura's appreciation for art and Jane's appreciation for sarcasm help solve this week's crime even as the bickering from last week continues, and some surprising information about Korsak is revealed in the process. Eddie Cibrian guest stars in this episode as someone Maura finds love with. “Maura meets him on her autopsy table,” Sasha explains. “Let’s just say his ‘special part’ gives him away. We think his character just had a stroke and died, so he’s still in his clothes on the table, and the girls are commenting on how hot he is when he’s on the autopsy table. Episode 2: "Dirty Little Secret"

That said, "come the second episode, something happens that brings them back together. They slowly make their way back when they start to realize what went down. Maura is coming to the realization that Paddy Doyle is not a good guy. This incident will bring them into a much deeper relationship and they do come out of it stronger." (via After Ellen)
Specifically, according to the sides, Maura and Jane cross an ex-Army Ranger trained in psychological warfare who's engaging in a fraudulent fracking scheme. They end up in a reservoir spillway, "trapped in a car with the water rising around them" (via Entertainment Weekly). Maura tells Jane to call her mom to tell her they're friends again, but Jane's phone won't work. She can only type in symbols, so Maura dictates a Morse code message to text to Korsak. Also, Jane has to perform surgery on an injured Maura.

Episode 1: "What Doesn't Kill You"

"We do see their initial reaction and response to all that drama. Maura is definitely spinning from all of that. There is a lot of anger and misunderstanding between her and Jane in terms of what just happened. They pick up at a place that is very intense for both of them. Paddy apparently survives and escapes. This episode sees the search for him continue, but Jane is uncooperative by refusing to place a BOLO (if you don't know what that is, you can find out HERE). Although Korsak comes to her defense, her bosses are less than pleased - so much so that someone gets demoted to the Evidence Management Department (EMD). The team is also dealing with the fallout from the finale and the murder of a cop. (via ShaneSSaunders)

Another picture from Angie confirms that this season picks up where the last left off, as both Jane and Frost are wearing the same clothes they had on in the last scene of episode 2x15.
That said, a flashback to Jane's undercover drug-investigation roots is also incorporated - specifically to the day she first meets Maura. (via TV Guide)
