Q&A: Janet Tamaro, "Rizzoli & Isles" executive producer!

From the R&I Facebook (contains hints about season 2!):
When you write an episode, what usually comes first in the process...the case the team has to solve or where you want to take the characters/want us to learn about the characters for that episode?
--Lori Boyles

It really depends on the episode.

How much importance does the fan community around the show affect the way you write it? Do you put things in for the fans to work on?
--Julia Hedberg

I definitely do pay attention, but I'm human, too, and the occasional negative comments get to me. It's very easy to sit back and critique. It's a lot harder to roll up your sleeves and create. That said, I love that people love this show. It's what we all strive for as writers. It helps me write it week after week if I make a point of staying true to what made me want to write this in the first place: a good solid crime show driven by the relationship between two smart, complicated, opposite women who make us all laugh. We (me and my team of writers) work hard to build strong mysteries because we're writing for a smart, savvy audience. The goal is to keep you guessing until the end...

Will either lady have a love interest this season?
--Debbie Roberts

We have some great surprises planned for both of them in the "love interest" category.

What made you get into television writing?
--Helena Vann

It is the most powerful and direct way to do all that I love to do: write, produce, work with other writers, directors, actors and crew in this massive collaboration that is putting on a TV show. I live to make people laugh, think, tear up and come back again for more.

THANK YOU for creating/writing/producing such a GREAT show. Can't wait for July 11th! Is writing/producing this show as fun to do... as the show is to watch? Doubt it, but your efforts pay off for us viewers BIG TIME!
--Gary McCullough

Well, thank you for watching and for taking the time to thank me. It means a lot to me to know that we have fans like you. As for the fun in all of this...You're catching me on a Sunday after I've spent the weekend writing (and the week producing into the wee hours). Yes, it has its moments of fun. And yes, it's a lot of effort. But it makes it worth it when I read comments like yours, so thank you and keep watching. Season 2 will be even better than Season 1.

  1. Hi Angie "Rizzoli and Isles" is my favorite show in the whole universe. You are my favorite actress on the show. I want to get tattoos of "Rizzoli and Isles" on both wrists.
I was just wondering, is it possible to make "Rizzoli and Isles" dolls? If so that would be awesome!! Also, would it be possible to meet you and Sasha in person? That would totally rock!! You totally rock Angie!!! Thanks for writing such an awesome show. You are my positive role model. I look up to you like a big sister. :)
