Angie Harmon on Rizzoli & Isles: "Separately they're amazing, together they are extraordinary."

Television viewers can pick and choose from among dozens of crime shows, but the stars and creator of Rizzoli & Isles believe their secret weapon for getting and holding fans — seasons 1 and 2 averaged more than 8 million viewers — is the feminine factor.

"There's a lot of estrogen on this show," says Sasha Alexander, who plays medical examiner Maura Isles, best friend and colleague of Boston detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) on the TNT cop show inspired by the novels of Tess Gerritsen.

Angie Harmon: "Don't worry; we get our Maura back."

When last we saw Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander), Jane had just shot Maura’s biological father Paddy Doyle (guest star John Doman) — and it was touch and go whether or not he would survive. The even bigger shock at the end of the Season 2 finale was that the usually calm and scientific Maura had a knee-jerk, emotional reaction to the probable death of her dad and turned her wrath on Jane.

“Obviously, as humans we are who we are to our core,” Harmon said in an exclusive interview with XfinityTV.com. “As we go through emotional situations, depending on what your makeup is, and how you react to it, that is who you are. Maura goes back to being her scientific, all-kinds-of-useless-information, hilarious self. That certainly comes back. Don’t worry. We get our Maura back.”
